So since saturday it has been derby, derby and guess what yes more derby. As i write this i have a nice wheel print on my left buttock and my whole upper body aches!!! Still as all derby people say MAN UP GROW A TASH!!!!!
So the weekend started with MRD facing off against PRG at the arcadia. PRG was made up a few different teams with people from the imposters, hot wheels roller derby, wakefield wheeled cats to name a few.
It was also my first head ref experience (was bitting my nails to begin with.....) I have to compliment all the ref crew and NSO's on a job well done which made my job a dream to do. Everyone new what they were doing and most improtantly when to do it. The score was (i think) MRD 151 PRG 110. It was a hard fought game and (cough) penalty heavy!!!!
So roll on sunday to where we came to team practice. Since the Sheffield game where i injured my back i have stayed away from any blocking drills to let my back right itself again. I felt ready so when we started blocking i was working with First aiden and Gay Fawkes. When it came to be my turn to take the blocks i managed to get them both on the floor!!! Was really surprised. So after a full team practice we move to monday!!!
This was the first men's practice and it was great to see the turn out!!! As well as having the regulars from MRD, 3 of the guys from sheffield came up, Jarvis Blocker, Bollock Obama, and Justin...... i am terrible with names sorry!! As well as Deadly Nedly and Crash Matt From leeds!!
It was quite a hardcore session doing laps in one direction then the other (27 right way 25 wrong way ;) )as well as plenty of blocking and pack work drills. I came home full of adrenalin and couldn't get to sleep till gone 1am!!!
Roll on next Monday!!!
So on to the rest of the week. The Band are playing on saturday @ Olivers bar in Ashton with Theonin and Candid eniquity. Should be a good gig so come down if you can. Theonin are a band from leeds who are coming over check them out in all the usual places (facebook etc etc). Right now we have new songs coming out of our arse with new stuff beginning to get worked on by everyone culminating in some seriously heavy stuff. You should be hearing them soon!!
I wont go any longer though i have no pics to share at the moment cause i need to get my camera sorted so when i do i will add some on here!!!

Well due to me having the lurgy (cold that won't budge) i havn't been to derby practice! The next thing to happen at MRD however, is International Women's Day.
We have events going on, on the 4th and 5th of march for more information check out our up coming events page on the website www.manchesterarcadians.com
In other news the mens team are called Manchester Heretics. We are currently sorting out logos etc for us!!!
With the band there are serveral things going on at the moment. As well as gigging this last month at whittles, the soundhouse in Bolton and then finishing off at the retro bar. We are currently sorting new t-shirts, new 3 track ep and then working on new songs for an album later in the year.
Our next gig is down in leicester with Silent resistance. We played a gig with the boys when they last came up to manchester and have asked us to play on there album launch gig. So we will be loading up the cars on the 20th of march to play there so if anyone in leicester fancies coming out to see us we are playing at the soundhouse!!!
So with no pictures this time i bid you goodbye for now!!!

Wonderbrawl
So the Day (for me anyway) started at 9 am sorting things out for Wonderbrawl. I got to the venue helped set up the PA and screen etc. Time flew by as people began to arrive, teams began to appear, and the track penalty boxes etc began to be laid.
Everyone from MRD was helping out somewhere (it being our first home bout) and as the other teams began to arrive they were taken care of. First to arrive in a double decker bus was the Tiger Bay Brawlers (and friends) If you ever have the tiger bay come to you they bring alot of fans with them all of which made one hell of a noise cheering!!!! The Blitz Dames then began to arrive as well as Hot wheels roller Derby.
Before we new where we were the first game was about to start teams were in place with all officials standing by. The first game was between Tiger Bay and Birmingham Blitz. It was a hard fought battle between the two teams, the first half was pretty close points wise with great play from both teams. Considering it was there second bout tiger bay put on a strong offence in the second half, just pulling ahead. Birmingham blitz dames were not out yet with some great jams from violet attack and sleazy rider but tiger bay held strong. There was only one injury during the game which was to tiger bay number 15, Queen La Queefer best wishes to you and i hope the ankle gets better soon and that you are back on skates giving hell. Final score 123 - 110 to Tiger Bay.
On to the Second game between MRD and Hot Wheels. Both teams came out fighting with scores staying pretty even untill half way through the first half MRD began to take the lead. With Some great jamming from Fale, Mooks and G whizz they began to pull ahead. Not that Hot wheels didn't stop them some amazing blocking from Nuclear Missile and Vandal Liza kept the jammers back as well as some great team work form Hot wheels didnt make it easy for MRD. In the second half MRD captalised on there lead and took the game to win, 171 - 56.
For me Reffin two games with fast packs was hard work but was amazing fun, all teams played amazing and the crowd were awesome. There were banners, flags one person had even shaved the letters MRD into there hair which was awesome to see that much support for MRD's first home bout.
Lastly a couple of thank you's, as we all know in derby these things take alot to organise for this we should thank Nic Psychosis from MRD who put alot into organising and getting people to do jobs these people included Seb for the programme, the guys from Nite Heat who did the DJing, Al for the PA etc I could go on and attempt to thank everyone but it would take an age!!!!! But thanks to the teams who travelled and brought people with them to make MRD's first Home bout a success!!!! Heres to the next one!!!

In other roller derby news MRD has its first home bout against Hot wheels on sunday 6th of Feb. It is a double header with also Birmingham Blitz Dames and Tiger Bay going head to head against one another. I am inside pack reffin both games which will be awesome fun. If you havn't checked out roller derby before come down to Manchester Academy from 1 on sunday.
The other pic is of the band, which was taken by the bands good friend David (incididave). This was from our recent academy show which was amazing. Other news from the band is we are in the middle of doing the album. So far both drums (all tracks) and some bass (on 4 tracks) has been done. The aim is to get bass done in the next few weeks and then move on to the guitar parts.
